us Insert Coin: Inside Midway's '90s Revolution

Insert Coin: Inside Midway's '90s RevolutionTerminator 2, NARC, Revolution-X, Smash TV and NBA Jam arcade games as well as Mortal Kombat and Cruis'n series marked the '90s. They are all the work of defunct American developer Midway. Originally a manufacturer of pinball machines in 1958, Midway begins making arcade video games in the '70s and produced them until 2001, time of the closing of the arcade division. The same year, a successor was born in the form of Raw Thrills, a company created by former Midway employees. But that's another story... Joshua Tsui worked at Midway from 1993 to 1999, working on titles like WWF WrestleMania, NHL 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge and Mortal Kombat 4. He now proposes to tell the history of Midway in the '90s, a company where game creators worked freely without supervision and every game they released was a hit! Momentarily entitled "Insert Coin: Inside Midway's '90s Revolution", this documentary to be released in Blu-ray will offer a behind-the-scene look on the development of the flagship games through interviews and unseen footage. It will also unveil the many unreleased titles with exclusive pictures. That looks very interesting! Joshua chose the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform to make his project a reality. A $15 pledge will be enough to download the documentary in digital format while the special edition on Blu-Ray will cost $50 (plus $15 for shipping it to Belgium). The $75.000 goal must be met before August 17 to fund the production of this documentary that will be released in July 2017. You can find more details on the project page.

jp CHUNITHM

CHUNITHMCHUNITHM, the new game from maimai development team is since Yesterday. As maimai, this is a musical game. It uses a new touch panel control. The player must move his hand on the control panel according to the blocks that descend on the screen. The originality of CHUNITHM comes from sensors installed on the sides which adds a third dimension since they detect the hand movements in the air that the player must do when "Air" blocks appear. The game characters help the player during the game and each have a specific capacity. Sega has thought about the comfort of players during the development of CHUNITHM cabinet: it features glass panels on the side isolating the player of ambient noise, a minijack port for headphones is present and the sound comes from a multi-channel system. About musical selection, CHUNITHM is in the lineage of maimai and Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Arcade Future Tone with J-pop, anime, Vocaloid and Tohou Project music.

jp Pokkén Tournament

Pokkén TournamentAlmost a year after its announcement, Pokkén Tournament is finally released today. Pokkén Tournament is developed by Bandai Namco and supervised by Katsuhiro Harada and Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of The Pokémon Company. It's a fighting game using Tekken fighting gameplay but applied to Pokémon. The game is intended in priority for the players of the first Pokémon games that have now reached their thirties. More adult than traditional Pokemon games, it is however less technical than Tekken to be as accessible to the largest number of players. Unlike other arcade fighting games, the game doesn't use the traditional joystick and buttons but it uses a console style gamepad. The pad features 6 buttons: X (strong attack), Y (weak attack), A (Pokémon's technique), B (jump), L (call a support Pokémon), and R (guard). The player selects 2 Pokémon per round (a playable and a support). Each Pokémon has a "super power attack" that he can use only once per round. When the Pokémon has all his energy, he can also use a "burst attack". Nine playable Pokémon are already available: Lucario, Machamp, Suicune, Gardevoir, Pikachu, Gengar, Weavile, Charizard and Blaziken; as well as eight support Pokémon: Emolga, Fennekin, Snivy, Frogadier, Eevee, Lapras, Whimsicott and Jirachi.
