The Pixels movie opens today in Belgian cinemas (in both 2D and 3D)! The plot: In 1982, the NASA sends a time capsule into space containing data about human culture. Some pictures show the popular arcade games of the moment. 33 years later, the message is intercepted by aliens who interpret it as a declaration of war. So they send an appropriate response to the threat they have before them in the form of giant video game characters (such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong) to destroy us. Powerless, the US President calls his friends who were arcade game champions in their youth to help him fight these creatures more efficiently than the army. The team calls itself the Arcaders (their suit is available at the official store). You can watch the trailer on YouTube. The cast of this film directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter, ...) includes among others Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan and Peter Dinklage. This feature film is inspired by a short film made in 2010 by French director Patrick Jean that showed the New York invasion by characters from old arcade games. In the original short (visible on Vimeo), creatures were not coming from space but instead escaped a TV abandonned on the pavement. Thanks to his enthusiasm, Adam Sandler convinced Patrick Jean to sell the rights to Sony Pictures. Here is the result; a movie bashed by critics. Is it really bad? There's only way to find out... The new version of Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX starts operation in Japan today. There are three new characters in Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION: Emi Yusa from the light novel Hataraku Maō-sama! (The Devil Is a Part-Timer!) and Quenser Barbotage from the light novel Heavy Object as playable characters and Major Froletia Capistrano also from Heavy Object as a support character. Other characters are rebalanced. Sega and Dengeki will certainly add more characters from popular animes and mangas in the future. You can watch the trailer introducing the new characters here.

The new upgrade of Under Night In-Birth is available in Japan since yesterday. Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] adds new characters and new gameplay features. The new character is called Phonon, she wears headphones and holds a whip. The two additional characters from the console version Nanase and Byakuya as well as story segments are now also available for the arcade version. A new stage is also added. The old characters have new moves and a new functionality is added to the gameplay: the Cross Veil Off. You can watch the trailer here.

Capcom launches its new arcade game today: crossbeats REV. This is the first rhythm game fully produced by Capcom. The game producer is Naoki Maeda who formerly worked on BEMANI games such as the DDR series. crossbeats REV. is played with a 32" touch screen. Lines come across the screen and when two lines intersect, notes appear and the player must touch them. When the lines are bold blue, the player must hold that note. The musical selection includes Glay and Babymetal. Music that Naoki Maeda composed when he was working for Konami are also available.

The Extreme VS. Summer Festival 2015 starts today and will last all Summer. During this festival, new mechas will be added. A new course E and a new final boss will appear. Today the new mecha is the PF-78-1 Perfect Gundam coming from the Plamo-Kyoshiro manga published between 1982 and 1986. On July 29, the RMS-108 (MSA-002) Marasai and the RX-110 Gabthley coming both from the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam series will be added. On August 5, it will be the MSN-04II Nightingale coming from the novel Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - Beltorchika's Children published in 1988 and on August 25, the GNT-0000/FS 00 Qanï¼»Tï¼½Full Saber coming from Mobile Suit Gundam 00V : Battlefield Record, a graphic novel published between 2009 and 2011. Luigi Mansion Arcade will be out tomorrow. The game cabinet is a theater style cabinet where two players take place to fight ghosts. The vacuum shaped controllers have two buttons: one for the flashlight that can surprise the ghosts before attacking them and the other for the vacuum cleaner. Players must shake controllers in vacuum mode to suck evil spirits. A button to throw a bomb that can destroy the "Greenies" ghosts armor is also available. Luigi Mansion Arcade is based on Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon released on 3DS, the conversion was made byCapcom. Luigi appears during cut-scenes and a tutorial featuring Professor E Gadd helps players to familiarize themselves with the game.

Terminator 2, NARC, Revolution-X, Smash TV and NBA Jam arcade games as well as Mortal Kombat and Cruis'n series marked the '90s. They are all the work of defunct American developer Midway. Originally a manufacturer of pinball machines in 1958, Midway begins making arcade video games in the '70s and produced them until 2001, time of the closing of the arcade division. The same year, a successor was born in the form of Raw Thrills, a company created by former Midway employees. But that's another story... Joshua Tsui worked at Midway from 1993 to 1999, working on titles like WWF WrestleMania, NHL 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge and Mortal Kombat 4. He now proposes to tell the history of Midway in the '90s, a company where game creators worked freely without supervision and every game they released was a hit! Momentarily entitled "Insert Coin: Inside Midway's '90s Revolution", this documentary to be released in Blu-ray will offer a behind-the-scene look on the development of the flagship games through interviews and unseen footage. It will also unveil the many unreleased titles with exclusive pictures. That looks very interesting! Joshua chose the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform to make his project a reality. A $15 pledge will be enough to download the documentary in digital format while the special edition on Blu-Ray will cost $50 (plus $15 for shipping it to Belgium). Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Arcade Edition is on location test since yesterday and this until July 22 in Japan. This is the first time that a game from the Mario & Sonic series is ported to arcade. It's developed by Sega in collaboration with Nintendo. The cabinet features a food sensor pad and two big joysticks equipped with a button. Eight characters have already been announced: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow. Each character is of one of these types: strong, fast or balanced. At the moment, 4 sports are available: 100 metres, hammer throw, javelin throw and archery. The player must use the joysticks in different ways depending on the sport.

CHUNITHM, the new game from maimai development team is since Yesterday. As maimai, this is a musical game. It uses a new touch panel control. The player must move his hand on the control panel according to the blocks that descend on the screen. The originality of CHUNITHM comes from sensors installed on the sides which adds a third dimension since they detect the hand movements in the air that the player must do when "Air" blocks appear. The game characters help the player during the game and each have a specific capacity. Sega has thought about the comfort of players during the development of CHUNITHM cabinet: it features glass panels on the side isolating the player of ambient noise, a minijack port for headphones is present and the sound comes from a multi-channel system. About musical selection, CHUNITHM is in the lineage of maimai and Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Arcade Future Tone with J-pop, anime, Vocaloid and Tohou Project music.
